    • AIDS (AJAX Image Dump System) is a simple, yet powerful AJAX-based image host system. It’s geared toward forum usage, and it generates bb-code for cutting and pasting into forums that support bb-code. It lets people create user accounts to keep track of their pictures, reaccess them later to view stats, delete them, or simply copy the bb-code again.

    • Ansel is a Horde photo gallery that provides functionality for managing unlimited photo galleries, with thumbnails, paging, EXIF data, and permissions on a per-gallery basis. It also provides a number of features not normally found in Web-based photo galleries, including cropping, resizing, rotating, watermarking, and greyscale effects.
    • Camera Life is a system for cataloging your photo collection. Photos can be stored locally, on a remote server, on Amazon S3, or on Flickr. The theme and icons can be easily customized. It is compatible with the Gallery Remote API (so you can upload with iPhoto, Digikam, and Java). It is RSS enabled, supports microformats and OpenSearch, and has a special version of the site for iPhone/iPod touch. AJAX is used to optimize the site as necessary.

    • Dumi Web Gallery is a script for easily creating an image gallery on the Web. It supports automatic thumbnail generation and automatic directory tree updates.
    • EmailAlbum allows you to select pictures located in a local folder and automatically generate a lightweight executable jar file containing your pictures scaled down to fit a 1024×768 screen and a tiny Java program to display the pictures and extract them on your local disk.
    • Eyes Of Lynx is an application for examining your images on the Web. It’s designed to be fast, intuitive, and very powerful. Its key features include an original and innovative interface, zoom and rotation tools, auto-rotation of photos when an orientation is provided in EXIF data (information stored by digital cameras), a cache of images in a smaller/intermediate size to increase display and loading speeds, thumbnail image navigation, and more.
    • Gallery is a slick Web-based photo album written using PHP. It is easy to install, includes a config wizard, and provides users with the ability to create and maintain their own albums in the album collection via an intuitive Web interface. Photo management includes automatic thumbnail creation, image resizing, rotation, ordering, captioning and more. Albums can have read, write, and caption permissions per individual authenticated user for an additional level of privacy.
    • GRSlideShow is the perfect solution for the lazy Web master that wants to have some pictures online. Your visitors will see your pictures quickly and easily, and can even print T Shirts with the picture they see in just one click. Each directory of your pictures is an album. Put the script in the parent directory, and you’re done. Call the script with ?admin=1 to see the admin view with many options. It supports Web or FTP upload, zip extraction, smart caching, and a lot more.
    • IIPimage is a client/server system for viewing and navigating within extremely high resolution remote images. It is based on the Internet Imaging Protocol and is able to work efficiently even over slow dialup connections. The server is written in C++ as a plugin for Apache, Lighttpd, or any other FCGI-enabled Web server. Images are viewed via an AJAX Javascript, Flash, or Java client. The system can also handle 3D image sequences, panoramas, or multispectral images
    • ImgBrowz0r (pronounced Imagebrowzor or I-m-g-browzor) is a class written in PHP5 (tested with 5.2.9) that enables you to set up a simple gallery with basic configuration to 10 minutes. It’s also possible to integrate it into a CMS or your existing site. You can change various other things like sorting order and thumbnail sizes. It generates thumbnails, generates pagination/breadcrumbs, and outputs XHTML that is provided with classes and IDs so that everything can be extended and changed with Javascript and CSS. The only thing you have to do is install it, upload your images, and maybe clean the cache once in a while.
    • jsgal is a dynamic Web-based gallery. However, rather than generating the gallery pages on a server using scripts, it is implemented in Javascript and DHTML and generates the pages in the client’s browser. No offline generation of the Web pages is required; only a list of images has to be maintained, which allows easy updating and extending of galleries. This allows you to host dynamic galleries on servers without scripting support, or on local filesystems (e.g. CD-ROMs).
      • JSGalBuilder is an application for creating and editing of Web based galleries. The created galleries use JSGal (a JavaScript based gallery) for the rendering of the gallery in the browser. It also supports automatic scaling and automatic rotation (using JPEG EXIF orientation information) when new images are added to the gallery.
    • JuxtaPhoto is a PHP photo album that lets you share and organize images on your Web site. Features include tagged “smart albums”, EXIF information, batch uploads, automatic photo sizing, chronological sorting of photos, slideshows, and easy to modify templates.
    • LinPHA is an easy-to-use, multilingual, flexible photo/image archive/album/gallery written in PHP. It uses an SQL database (MySQL or PostgreSQL) to store information about your pictures. It comes with an HTML-based installer, so you don’t need experience in setting up SQL databases. Thumbnails are created as needed and stored in the SQL DB. It features complete user management, top ten statistics, hidden albums, different themes, slideshow, filemanager, uploader, watermarks, benchmark, printing, and more.
    • Lifebox is a fast, lightweight, social photo and video gallery application that is designed to organize large amounts of media. It is able to differentiate between original and modified photos so you can upload your entire library to your server and highlight your favorite photos and videos into albums to share with friends. Lifebox also makes a distinction between albums and rolls, so a single photo or video can be part of multiple albums but only one roll. It extracts data from EXIF tags and XMP sidecars, making it compatible with the data from programs like Adobe Lightroom, Picassa, and iPhoto. Lifebox is social in that people and objects can be tagged, and they will receive an email when this happens. It supports authentication, so you can control who has access to what photo.
    • MicroAlbum is a photo gallery script written in PHP, with an emphasis on simplicity and ease of usage. It is intended to be small, simple and fast. Features include rotatable thumbnails and previews that are automatically generated and managed, sorting of albums and images by name, date, a custom order and reversed order, a password-protected admin area, access keys for quick navigation, customisable CSS, header and footer, and a ‘most viewed images’ album.
    • minishowcase is a small and simple php/javascript online photo gallery, powered by AJAX that allows you to easily show your images online, without complex databases or coding, allowing to have an up-and-running gallery in a few minutes (CCL)
    • Moa is a lightweight, easy to use, personal gallery that is suitable for extending and complementing a homepage. It can be divided up into sub-galleries to display images in a structured way.
    • Ochiba is a Web-based image gallery that is a hybrid of traditional “photo album” software such as Gallery or Coppermine and “image board” software, such as futaba, futallaby, and wakaba. It also borrows concepts found in gmail and iPhoto to provide flexible, keyword/tag based filtering of displayed images, which can be used to create on-the-fly “virtual” albums. Its other features include XHTML/CSS compliance, RSS feeds for image categories, post throttling, IP banning, caching, visual image-based post verification for spam prevention (CAPTCHA), and zip file handling (for multiple images in one upload).
    • Open Photo Album is an easy-to-use online photo album. It not only contains basic features of an photo album (e.g., upload/share photos, post comments). But also provides advanced features (e.g., photo filters). And, in the mean time, it supports multiple interface languages.
    • phpAlbum.net is an easy to install and run photo album and gallery script. It doesn’t require a database and features automatic installation on an FTP server with just a few clicks. It generates thumbnails and resized photos and supports password directory protection, access logs, short and longer description of directories and photos, and an admin section for creating new directories, uploading photos, and deleting them. HTML layout is separated from the functional code, and two themes are available.

    • Photo Organizer is multi-user photo management tool that was designed for professional photographers. It offers a searchable photo database that supports photo version control, client management, photo submission history, EXIF, IPTC, XML, and XMP, user quotas, a datebook, and printing labels and color brochures in PDF and PS formats. It uses PostgreSQL, features a Web interface, and uses ImageMagick and DCRAW to handle over a hundred image formats including several RAW formats.

    • Pictag is a simple web photo gallery with automatic thumbnail generation and tagging capability. It’s self-contained in a single file, uses the filesystem for gallery layout, and requires no stand-alone database (it uses SQLite) or no database at all. It handles EXIF data, provides support for HTTP user authentication and authorization, and is customizable.
    • Pigalle (PIcture GALLEry) is a slick Web based photo album written in PHP 5. It makes it easy to create and maintain photo albums via an intuitive interface, as users need only upload their files to a server and let the program generate thumbnails for them. Visitors can choose their preferred image resolution and images will be generated on the fly. These generated images are cached and all meta-information such as album descriptions, image information, and user settings are stored in a database. A back-end administration interface helps to manage the files, edit the descriptions, and so on, making it very easy and convenient.
    • Piwigo is a photo gallery system for the Web. The project started in 2002 and was built by an active community of users and developers. It comes with powerful features for publishing and managing your photos, scalability, and smart browsing capabilities such as categories, tags, or chronology. It is Web and photo standard compliant. Extensions make Piwigo even more scalable and customizable.

    • Simple Gal is a very simple gallery script. It does not require a backend database, since it works off of the folder structure of the defined gallery photo folder. It provides a way to categorize photos simply by creating a sub-folder and dropping photos right in. It is ready to be dropped right into any existing site. It comes with a basic version of lightbox setup and is ready to use. It also comes with a stylesheet setup with default styles. It has a very small footprint and is highly customizable.
    • SPGM is a PHP script that displays online photo albums, providing users with very simple procedures for setting up and updating. Highly configurable, it includes several features (such as new pictures highlighting) for a perfect integration into Web sites.

    • UNG (UNG’s Not Gallery) is a Web gallery script for control freaks, tweakers, and other power users. It browses subdirectories (uploaded manually via FTP/SCP/etc.) of a specified location and creates a hierarchy of categories and pictures. It automatically creates thumbnails for images that don’t have them already and has an optional comment system so people can discuss posted pictures
    • VStar PhotoAlbum is a Web-based photo album designed for amateur photographers with digital cameras and their own Web server or home page. It alleviates the need to to spend much time creating Web pages to show off photographs, and it automatically makes periodic backups for photos.
    • XJIG is an image gallery based on HTML, JavaScript, AJAX, and XML. It does not use any server-side programming language. The images in the gallery are administrated by manipulating one XML index file (several files are possible). The image gallery can be burned to a CD or DVD or placed on a Web server. It has been tested with Firefox 2.0, Internet Explorer 5.0/5.5/6/7, Apple Safari (on Windows), and Konqueror (from KDE 3.5 or later).
    • Zoph is yet another photo album/gallery/management system, written using PHP and MySQL. It can store lots of information about your photos, including the regular EXIF info, photographer, location, title, description, rating, and the people in the photo. Photos can appear in multiple albums and categories. Additional features include search, slideshows, lightboxes, email, access privileges, and multiple languages.
